Empowering Health & Healthy Eaton

1. My Father’s Diagnosis

When I was 22, my Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. The doctors told us that it was a progressive, degenerative disease. We were all devastated. My Mom and I set out on a mission to find a way to slow the progression of his disease as much as possible. As it turned out, not only did we succeed in helping him, but it was just what I needed to start really questioning what I was putting in, and doing to, my body.

I’m Samantha Eaton, a Charlotte-based Certified Holistic Health Coach and Personal Chef, and my passion is helping women learn how to eat better and live a healthy life they love! I work with people through one-on-one coaching to ditch the diets and create a healthier relationship with food and their body image. I help them put an end to emotional eating and self-sabotage, develop healthier eating/cooking habits and ultimately look and feel like the best version of themselves (generally weight loss, increase energy, and eating healthier).

2. Holistic health and wellness

I then saw a holistic-minded doctor who opened my eyes to the world of managing my heath care naturally. He helped me identify my hidden food sensitivities and encouraged me to eat more real food (the stuff that doesn't come in packages). With just a few tweaks to my diet I started noticing my skin was clearer, my stomach was flatter and I just felt better.

That is when I decided to follow in my mom’s footsteps... I attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and have dedicated my life to sharing what I have learned and helping others.

From as far back as I can remember, body image has always been a motivator for me. From a young age, girls are shown that we should all look a certain way. I saw the Disney princesses in movies, fashion models in magazines and actresses on TV. So of course, that’s how I wanted to look…but despite the low number on the scale, when I looked in the mirror, I saw fat and was super unhappy.

As my hormones continued to change, acne, food cravings, trouble focusing, digestive issues, cramping, stress, and poor body image ruled my life. I worked out and counted calories like crazy and would only let myself eat foods that said: “sugar-free, fat-free or calorie free” on the label. Not only did they not help my lose any weight, but they actually made my problems worse and caused (both immediate, and not so immediate) side effects.

My approach, as a Health Coach, comes from a belief that everyone’s bodies and life situations are unique and should be treated that way. Based on my client’s goal(s), I holistically identify and develop individualized, practical, step-by-step custom plans to address their health concerns and help them start looking and feeling better. I also provide additional tools, guidance and support needed to help them with an easy transition to their wellness goals

My journey leading up to today was a long, slow process, but it really comes down to a couple of big events.
